Penlee's RNLI team rescued a yacht and an injured crew member caught in stormy seas last week.
The boat had suffered an engine failure in winds up to 40 knots and heavy seas on Friday June 14, while one of the three people on board was reported to have suffered an arm injury with their condition deteriorating.
Coxswain Patrick 'Patch' Harvey said that he was increasingly concerned about the hurt sailor, who was showing signs of hypothermia amid treacherous weather conditions.
"The weather conditions were getting worse all the time and the seas were beam on making it very uncomfortable with both the lifeboat and the yacht rolling a lot," said Mr Harvey.
"We were very concerned about the injured sailor."
The west Penwith lifeboat station was called after the yacht's crew reported they were unable to sail to safety.
Penlee's all-weather lifeboat the Ivan Ellen responded to the call, but was initially unable to locate the troubled vessel as the position given had been wrong.
As the RNLI team headed towards the yacht, passenger ferry the MV Scillonian circled so those onboard knew help was coming.
The Ivan Ellen arrived soon after and the yacht was then rafted alongside the RNLI lifeboat before first aid was given to the hurt sailor.
The vessel was later towed into Newlyn where it was met by paramedics.
