A school near Truro which has been given an outstanding Ofsted report has announced that it is joining a cluster of academies to share best practice and school services. Mount Hawke Academy pupils and staff were celebrating after the glowing Ofsted report following an unannounced inspection in June. It is the first primary academy in Cornwall to be awarded the accolade, following a new stringent inspection regime introduced last year. In September the school joins the Cornwall Academy Trust - a cluster of eight primary schools working together. Principal, Andrew Earnshaw, said of the Ofsted report: "I am absolutely delighted about the judgement. It confirms what we always knew, that the pupils, staff and parents of our school are amazing. We are very proud of this judgement and the effort that is always contributed from all involved, to make this school a wonderful asset to the local community." Chief executive of Cornwall Academy Trust, Andrew Fielder, said that having to work with shrinking budgets the partnership would enable them to share expertise and develop its own services, such as finance, school meals, executive services and cleaning. He added: "With a rich and diverse mix of small to large Cornish schools, we are working together on the moderation of pupils work, planning, training, using our own courses that help improve teaching and leadership, and providing some wonderful extra curricular activities for all the children." In their report, Ofsted inspectors said of Mount Hawke: "Children thrive in this supportive, exciting and welcoming atmosphere. Staff are very skilled at engaging pupils, developing their spoken language skills and stimulating their curiosity. "Behaviour is exemplary in lessons and around school. Pupils are very proud to be at Mount Hawke and are excellent ambassadors for their academy, with a passion for learning. They are polite, inquisitive and fun." In the past 12 months staff and pupils have had to cope with cramped conditions as a result of increased pupil numbers. Last year it had 225 on its roll forcing it to use its library as a classroom and moving its books into a corridor. Now it has 240 pupils with work starting on a new classroom in the summer holidays and is due to open in the Autumn.
